Catching up the news

Sorry for my absence, but here is a little catching up. The Utah Jazz defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, one of the league's top teams on Monday by a score of 105-102, in Overtime. The score was tied up at 95 apiece at the end of regulation, but the Jazz came up on top to win the game. The Jazz came back from an 18 point deficet to eventually tie the game on a Kirilenko 3 pointer with 2 seconds left. 4 Jazzmen, Andrei Kirilenko, Mehmot Okur, Keith McLeod, and Matt Harpring had at least 20 points each, at 24, 23, 22, and 20, respectively.

Utah flew out to Houston to defeat the Houston Rockets 82-74 on Tuesday. Utah was down by 5 at the half, when Rockets star Tracy McGrady, who despite only playing 8 minutes had 21 points, learned that his fiancee was going into labor at a nearby hospital, and left to be with her. Mehmot Okur led the Jazz with 20 points.

Brigham Young University failed to defeat University of California - Berkeley at the Las Vegas Bowl on 12/23/05. They came back from a 35-14 deficet to lose 35-28.

The University of Utah defeated Georgia Tech University by a score of 38-10 in the Emerald Bowl on Thursday. This was an upset as Georgia Tech was ranked #24 in the nation and was the 8 point favorite.

Jazz beat East's top team - at home

Andrei Kirilenko

The Utah Jazz defeated the Detroit Pistons at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Monday Night by a score of 92-78. All around poor play from Detroit led the Jazz to come from a halftime deficit of 13. Andrei Kirilenko of the Jazz wins player of the game, barely edging out Mehmot Okur of the Jazz. Both men had Double-Doubles, Okur had 2 more points, the same number of rebounds, but Kirilenko had 7 assists to Okur's 3.

Jazz win a home game, finally

Matt Harpring

The Utah Jazz defeated the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday at the Delta Center by a score of 95-83. Atlanta was and still is, by record, the league's worst team. They are 2-16. The Toronto Raptors come in second with a 3-17 record. I attended this game, and it was a blast. Matt Harpring was playing the best, but not by much. Andrei Kirilenko, coming off of a recent injury, had 14 points, 10 assists; a double double. However Harpring came close. He scored more points, he had 30, and 8 rebounds. My player of the game is Matt Harpring.

Jazz lose

Kevin Garnett

The Utah Jazz lost on Monday to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Salt Lake City by a score of 77-91. They didn't play so good most of the game, only scoring more than Minnesota in the first quarter, where they only outscored them by 2. My player of the game goes to Minnesota's Kevin Garnett, who had 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.

BYU obliterates Div I-AA Lamar

At the Delta Center on Wednesday, The Brigham Young University Cougars defeated the Lamar University Cardinals by a score of 97-74. BYU was playing its annual game at the Delta Center, home of the Utah Jazz. Lamar is a Division I-AA school. No Box score could be found on the internet, the only information I could get is the leading scorers at halftime. So my player of the game award goes to that Cougar, canadian Jimmy Balderson.

Utah edges Utah State in last minute thriller

The University of Utah Utes edged The Utah State University Aggies in basketball at the Jon M. Huntsman center on Wednesday by a score of 67-66. Jaycee Carroll of Utah State went up for a basket with three seconds left, but missed off the rim. Another Utah State player went up for the rebound, got it, and tried to get a shot off, which he made, but it was too late. Utah had already won. Bryant Markson of the Utes was my player of the game with 18 points.

Jazz lose another, set franchise record

Jermaine O'Neal

The Utah Jazz have lost yet another game, this time at home to the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday, 60-84. The Jazz set a franchise record for least number of points scored at home, breaking the record set against the New York Knicks earlier this season, when they scored just 62 points. Deron Williams led the Jazz in scoring yet again with 14 points. But the Pacers had two players receiving a double-double. They were: Jermaine O'Neal, with 21 points and 15 rebounds; and Jamaal Tinsley, with 14 points and 10 blocks. The player of the game award from me goes to Jermaine O'Neal. The Jazz player of the game goes to Mehmot Okur, slightly edging Deron Williams. Okur had 8 points and 9 rebounds compared to Williams' 14 points and 3 rebounds.
